MIG QUINET : PAPER, THE WORK OF A LIFETIME
For the publication of the catalogue raisonné of Mig Quinet and the twentieth anniversary of her death, the Galerie Aliénor Prouvost presents a selection of about thirty works on paper in association with the Fondation Mig Quinet.
The objects exhibited reveal an aspect that is still not well enough known of Mig Quinet’s art: drawing in ink on paper. Although she is well known for her oils on canvas, it is also from this series of works on paper– which she made throughout her career – that the artist liberated herself and succeeded in transporting us on a dreamlike voyage. In addition, we are very proud to represent an artist who was so committed, profoundly touched by feminism, as much in her private life as in her art.

CHARLOTTE FORTIER BEAULIEU – UT PICTURA POESIS
We are pleased to present for the first time at the gallery a set of thirty oil on panel by the French artist Charlotte Fortier Beaulieu. She paints urban landscapes, industrial machines, and buildings, while paying extremely careful attention to the subtlety of shades, colours. She focuses on a purity of line and structural values. She describes hard and unesthetic images with precision and delicacy. Metal, cranes, pylons, factory chimneys, are magnified here by the beauty of surrounding nature, the beauty of the skies, of the clouds, all magnified by the beauty of her light. She transforms places with poetry. Her painting is an ode to light. Each work has its own harmony. A certain melancholy characterizes her work through the depiction of broad empty spaces, devoid of any human representation, a treatment of the light that plays with chiaroscuro, from which a kind of aura emanates.

The gallery presents for the first time a set of mobiles by French artist Amaury Maillet.
Both complex in structures and full of great poetry, these are works conducive to reverie.
His technique is perfect. Balance, movement and elegance. Everything is right. A tribute to Alexander Calder’s works ? YES because he is the mobile inventor BUT Amaury Maillet has his own identity. This is not a Calder.

Lou van ‘t Riet | Minimalist landscapes
The gallery presents for the first time a set of eight triptychs by Belgian artist Lou van ’t Riet.
These polychrome volumes are a transcendental and essentialist representation of the landscapes and places that she has visited and where she has lived. She prefers the expression of sensitivity rather than figuration in shapes. An imaginary voyage for the viewer looking at the work.

The gallery is delighted to present the contemporary artist Salomé de Fontainieu for the first time in Brussels. A Marseillaise woman who paints between her Phocaen workshop and Bibémus near Aix-en-Provence.
This retrospective brings together monumental works on paper and canvas as well as some sculptures. The artist gives us a minimalist work imprinted with power, freedom and softness like a quiet force

Gérard Schneider ON PAPER | 1944-1959
The gallery presents a selection of more than 70 works on paper by Gérard Schneider: from the «decisive» period (1945-1950) to the «glorious» period (1951-1961). This lyrical abstraction leader left us with a painting that is both free and poetic, at the same time strong, intense and dynamic, where gesture and color reign as masters.

“Obliquement et à travers” (oblically and through), this unusual title of a painting by Huguette Arthur Bertrand could provide a good summary of her work’s place in the Post-War artistic landscape. After arriving in Paris in 1946, she became one of the few women to join the ranks of young artists who were practicing a form of abstraction that was at first geometrical and then became more spontaneous, adhering to an artistic movement that would be called, according to attempts at clarification by critics, “lyrical, gestural, informal or tachist”.
