PICASSO. Tableaux magiques > Musée National Picasso-Paris > October 1, 2019 – February 23, 2020

The term “Magic Paintings” from Picasso’s 1926-1930 period was coined by art critic Christian Zervos in his “Art Books”. These paintings are portraits inspired by extra-western art and sign the beginnings of Cubism. Anchoring in the surrealist movement, Picasso deforms, reconfigures and brings back to life the magic signs of prehistory and childhood. Being completely passionate about extra-Western art and being a great collector, eleven works that belonged to him are exhibited alongside his paintings.
